چکیده

Translating documents from a source to a target language is a repetitive activity. The attempt to automate such a difficult task has been a long-term scientific dream. Among the several types of approaches in Machine Translation (MT), one of the most promising paradigms is ExampleBased Machine Translation (EBMT). An EBMT system translates by analogy, using past translations to translate other, similar source-language material into the target language. In this paper we introduce EXTRA (EXample-based TRanslation Assistant), a complete EBMT system that exploits some innovative ideas in information retrieval and multilingual text management to effectively and efficiently extract useful suggestions from past translations and present them to the translator. This work has been developed as a joint work with the LOGOS group, a worldwide leader in multilingual document translation.

Multi-lingual phoneme recognition exploiting acoustic-phonetic similarities of sounds

The aim of this work is to exploit the acoustic-phonetic similarities between several languages. In recent work cross{ language HMM-based phoneme models have been used only for bootstrapping the language{dependent models and the multi{lingual approach has been investigated only on very small speech corpora. In this paper, we introduce a statistical distance measure to determine the similarities...

Neural Relation Extraction with Multi-lingual Attention

Relation extraction has been widely used for finding unknown relational facts from the plain text. Most existing methods focus on exploiting mono-lingual data for relation extraction, ignoring massive information from the texts in various languages. To address this issue, we introduce a multi-lingual neural relation extraction framework, which employs monolingual attention to utilize the inform...

Exploiting Knowledge Bases for Multilingual and Cross-lingual Semantic Annotation and Search

The amount of entities in large knowledge bases (KBs) has been increasing rapidly, making it possible to propose new ways of intelligent information access. In addition, there is an impending need for systems that can enable multilingual and cross-lingual information access. In this work, we firstly demonstrate X-LiSA, an infrastructure for multilingual and cross-lingual semantic annotation, wh...

Exploiting Associations between Class Labels in Multi-label Classification

Multi-label classification has many applications in the text categorization, biology and medical diagnosis, in which multiple class labels can be assigned to each training instance simultaneously. As it is often the case that there are relationships between the labels, extracting the existing relationships between the labels and taking advantage of them during the training or prediction phases ...

Multi-Lingual Text Generation and the Meaning-Text Theory

We describe multi-lingual text generation as an alternative to automatic translation in specified technical sublanguages, illustrating the notion with the implemented RAREAS-2 system for synthesizing marine weather forecasts in English and French. We then review the Meaning-Text Theory (MTT) of Mel'cuk et al. as we have applied it to text generation in the GOSSIP system for producing English re...
